Updates from Peggy Poore, Freedom Dogs Executive Director
Gratitude. What we feel when we think of our donors who have generously made our program possible. The possibility and the reality of connection, relationship, and a journey toward healing for our Wounded Warrior participants. The honor of being part of the Freedom Dogs family and the privilege of witnessing the lives that are changed as a result. These are all experiences we owe to you, our donors!
This last year has seen a changing landscape for us as we added employees and gave Beth a much-deserved chance to enjoy her family more and accept some help after carrying this organization forward for so many years. This will always be Beth’s place.
We had our 10th Annual Golf Tournament in March which was SOLD OUT! Fairbanks Ranch didn’t disappoint in providing a day of fun in the sun with our past and present participants and those who have faithfully supported our cause. Family, friends, dogs, food and golf! What could be better?
The day prior to the golf tournament we held our 1st Annual Family Reunion for all our participants and their families. A casual day of reconnecting, enjoying a meal and catching up with one another was a highlight according to our participants. As the golf tournament is usually a whirlwind of activity and we rarely get to see those who have moved out of town except for this event, we added the family reunion to strengthen and deepen our relationships and remind one another you are never alone. This is the first of many such family reunions to come.
We added new trainers, a new trainers Foundations class, new participants, and of course new puppies. We are adding an evening class this month to accommodate our Veterans who work and can’t attend our daytime class. Our selfless and talented Board of Directors is busy planning our business strategy for the next few years, and we are so grateful for the time and dedication they share with Freedom Dogs.
Once again, THANK YOU to all who have supported us and our mission to speed the recovery and enhance the lives of wounded military heroes through the use of specialty-trained service dogs. It’s all about our service members and we couldn’t do this without you!
